Long before there was talk of a new wave of Norwegian Americana, before Beyoncé made country hip, and long before “nordicana” became a catchphrase, there were Lucky Lips. They pulled on their boots around Oslo and played wherever people wanted them. They played at country festivals and bluegrass jams. They made it to the finals of the Melodi Grand Prix, won the European Bluegrass Championship and played at Americanafest in Nashville. They kept going, did their own thing and never gave up – even when country was one of the least trendy things to do.

Lucky Lips was the band where Malin Pettersen kicked off her musical career – her musical family. Now the family is back together and ready with their first release since 2016.

Fronted by Pettersen – who needs no further introduction – Lucky Lips have been a constant force on Oslo’s country scene for the past 15+ years. They started out as a pure bluegrass band, but quickly incorporated elements from related genres: old-time, honky tonk, outlaw country and Americana. The band’s music is characterized by Pettersen’s unstoppable voice, a rock-solid and groovy beat, playful banjo and virtuoso guitar playing.

Today the band consists of Malin Pettersen, Erlend Skullestad Hølland, Even Reinsfelt Krogh, Pål Emil Storm-Berg and Stian Jørgen Sveen (SJ Sveen). In addition to their work in Lucky Lips, the group has played and toured with bands and artists such as Amund Maarud, JP Harris, Robert Moses & the Harmony Crusaders, A-11, Katzenjammer, Robert Ellis, Brennen Leigh, Ila Auto, Winding Road, Fat Fred & the Possumhunters, Sweetheart, Lady Friend and many more.

Lucky Lips debuted back in 2010 and were instrumental in kicking off the "Nordicana wave" that has swept across the country over the past decade.
