Sam Donald is a vocalist and guitarist from Jackson, Mississippi. Sam played guitar in a band for several years before he decided in 2021 to go solo as a frontman and songwriter. In early 2024, several of Sam's songs and videos went viral on TikTok, where they collected more than 15 million views in less than six weeks. This led to his current numbers increasing by over 400%.

After several years of collaboration with their long-term producer, Zack Keel, the two made a conscious choice early in 2023 to stop chasing what they felt they "should" work with, stylistically, and rather let the music and writing flow freely. The result was a new style that has loosely been described as "grunge-country". The first song they used this approach on was "Make You Want God". The song immediately became the stylistic fingerprint of what they wanted to create, and has ultimately led to the authentic sound Sam hoped to achieve, while at the same time building an expression that feels true to himself. The subsequent songs released in 2023 were "Nickels & Dimes" and "Son of the Sandman".
